Looby is probably best known for his Archibald winning portrait of Max Gillies dressed as Bob Hawke, but his drawings and related etchings illustrating the horrors of colonial Australia, including the 1979 book 'A Black and White History of Australia', are some of his most significant and enduring works.

This Colourful Sketch, of a Figure in Military Uniform and Tall Boots, was Purchased by the Vendor at Auction ( Charleston Auctions) C2010-2015.

A post-war artist, Long was influenced by the Heidelburg school and is best known as a realist painter of landscapes as diverse as the Flinders Ranges, Shoalhaven River and Central Desert Country.
